Obituary:
Gary Joseph Peters was born in the German Catholic community of St. Florian in Florence, AL on May 14, 1963. He passed away on November 14, 2017. Visitation will be Thursday, November 16th from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church followed by a graveside service at St. Michael’s Cemetery with Fr. John O’Donnell officiating. For those who wish to join us a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michaels’ Church immediately following the graveside service. A 1985 graduate of the University of Alabama, Gary worked 26 years for Champion/International Paper as a computer programmer. He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest Harold Peters and Helen Neidert Peters, sister, Angie Peters Czermak, and brother, Marion Peters. He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Sherry Vaughn Peters, son, Shane, and daughter, Danielle (Fletcher), brothers, David (Regina), Jimmy (Sherry), Ralph (Donna); sister, Janet Ragland (Regan); and brother-in-law, John Czermak. He loved playing golf with his brother David and listening to the musical groups Styx and Pink Floyd. He could quote Charlie Brown, Gilligan’s Island, The Three Stooges, and every Bugs Bunny cartoon. He enjoyed goofy movies and telling jokes just to see us roll our eyes. He was highly intelligent and notoriously unbeatable at board games. However, most of all he loved his wife and children. He was truly the love of our lives. He was gentle, quiet, and unassuming but with a dry sense of humor that could take you by surprise. He was a wonderful husband and father, coaching both of his children in youth league sports. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed and he will always continue to be dearly loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the cemetery fund at St. Michael’s Church or the Kirklin Clinic Department of Neuro Oncology. Special thanks to Dr. Rhode Marie Maron and her staff at the Kirklin Clinic as well as the staff of Amedysis Hospice; also a special thank you to the friends and family that have shown so much love and support for the past 22 months. We are eternally grateful. You may sign the guest register at sprywilliams.com
