Loyd A. Hughes “Bill”, 82, of Killen, AL, was born on May 4, 1935 and died peacefully at home on January 9, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10 beginning at 5:00 P.M. at Spry~Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 11, 11:00 A.M. at Spry~Williams Chapel. Burial will be at Butler Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Williams, Bart Bradley, Mike Gibson, Windell Hutcheson, William Kizer, and A.B. Campbell.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, MaeJean Butler Hughes, and his two daughters,
Rhonda Holden and Ronette Williams (Mike). Grandchildren, Dana Johnson (Johnathan), Jamie Vanlandingham (Christopher), Kristin Holden,
Bradley Williams (Hailey), and Bethany Williams.
Bill was born in Loretto, Tn. to Sidney A. and Deedie Mae Liles Hughes. He was the second to oldest son with his siblings, Helen Bradley (CW), Marie Monaco (Jim), Wanda Carriveau (Bob), Sidney Hughes (Kathy), Joan Craig (Ronnie), Ray Hughes (Toni), Linda Boger, Rita Persons (Bill), and Kenneth Hughes (Patty).
Bill worked and retired at Reynolds Metals and proudly served his county in the U.S. Marines. He was a longstanding member and Deacon at Center Star Baptist Church and was an example of Christ’s love of others. He enjoyed studying his Bible and taught Sunday school for many years. Bill was a Godly man who loved his family and cherished time with his grandchildren. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed.
