Our good friend and colleague will be remembered well by all who knew him. He was one of those selfless individuals, who spoke little of himself while interested in the thoughts and ideas of others. Simply put, Don was one of the finest individuals we have ever had the privilege to know. He was intelligent, diligent, focused, considerate and unfailingly and gloriously kind to everyone he met. A true legend at the Tennessee Valley Authority; a wonderful husband and companion to Belinda; a caring and supportive father to his daughters Laura and April; and (I am sure) a doting grandfather to his grandchildren. Our world has lost a gentle giant of a man but we can all continue his legacy of kindness and consideration by simply asking ourselves “what would Don do.”
Laura, John, Lindell, Jack , and family – we are so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our thoughts, hearts, and prayers. We love you all.

Sending love and prayers to the family. Don had a sweet gentle soul. His legacy will live on!
Don was a joy to be around. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers for the entire family.
I have known Don to be a distinguished member of the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE) for many years. He served the engineering profession well and was an avid promoter of our outreach program, MATHCOUNTS. Don will be greatly missed. I pray for peace and dedicated remembrance for the family.
Belinda & family, sending you all my most heartfelt sympathy and prayers for strength and comfort during this most difficult time. We too are mourning the tremendous loss of our dear friend and colleague. It was my privilege to work with Don at TVA for 25+ years and he was truly one of the kindest, best men I have ever known. He was a true mentor and would always go out of his way to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Memories of those years have flooded my mind the past couple of days, but they are memories to cherish for all who worked with him or had the pleasure to know him. His work ethic and dedication to TVA was unmatchable. He was always doing good for others and the planet…..using #2 pencils down to nub, stacking styrofoam cups from lunch in his office to keep them out of landfills, only ever taking one napkin, racing ladies to the door to hold it for them especially if their arms were full, and I could go on and on. Don loved his family and his face lit up with pride when he spoke of his daughters and grandchildren. It was an honor to have known him. He will be greatly missed. May God comfort your hearts…
I am just heartbroken to hear the news of Don’s passing. He was such a kind, thoughtful, caring man. I am blessed to have known him, worked with him, and to have called him my friend. He was one of the good ones and his presence will forever be missed. Sending love, light, and prayers to his wife Belinda, daughters Laura and April, and his grandchildren. Rest In Peace dear friend.
I am saddened to hear of Don’s passing. Don loved his family dearly. Don was committed to the ASPE as none other I have ever known in my 40+ years of association. He helped further the cause of STEM progress in AL through his long and continuing work with MATHCOUNTS. Don was selfless and always there when needed, and volunteered to help whenever things needed to get done. My life was blessed having known him.
So sorry to hear of Don’s passing, Belinda, Don was a great guy, and faithful Christian man, and l believe as you do, Don has won the Victory, promised to the faithful, by the Father!
I was surprised and thrilled when Don reached out to me on Facebook earlier this year. When I asked him if he was still riding his bike, I was shocked and saddened when he told me—with absolutely *no* trace of “Why me?” or “Poor me!”—that he wasn’t and *why* he wasn’t. I was impressed by his courage and good humor in the face of such a scary diagnosis.
Don and I touched base a few times through Facebook, and he reacted positively (and without judgement) to the greater knowledge of details of my life that came with that. I guess he and I first got to know each other through the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers—he was a P.E.; I wasn’t. He and I corresponded via email a few times in the nearly 29 years since I left Alabama, and he was one of the old friends who I was occasionally lucky enough to see when I’d stop by TVA during my visits to the Shoals.
I agree that Don was one of the nicest people one could ever hope to meet. May he Rest In Peace, and may his family find peace and comfort in their memories of the fine man that he was.
I have read all of the comments from Don’s work friends about how smart, kind, and giving he was. I want everyone to know that he didn’t just wake up one day and decide to be that way. He has always been that way. A great guy all of his life and would never do anything to hurt anyone. He was a good friend from our high school days. Here’s a story from our basketball days.. Don asked me how I could make a shot from 20 feet away. I told him I had no clue that it just came naturally. He said this is how you do it…. he had a diagram on a piece of scrap paper that had the distance, arc, velocity, etc all neatly drawn with the corresponding equation below it. We got a big laugh because he knew I had no clue how he had all of that figured out. I’m sure those of you that knew him can relate. Rest in Peace my friend, you will be sorely missed.
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Lokey was a wonderful man to work with here at TVA. He was a very dedicated worker and he really enjoyed riding his back to Subway or even walk to there. He will truly be missed. You are all in my prayers.
Belinda, I was so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. The two of you were very young when you came to work at EPA in Durham. Although your time at EPA was short, you left a wonderful impression. I felt that Don was a dedicated Christian and a joy to be around. My sadness is overcome with joy because for a true believer, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. May Gods love and care sustain you now and forever
