Elizabeth Anne
York

March 1, 1940 - August 10, 2023

Elizabeth Anne York went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 10, 2023, after a long life of service to her country, community, family and friends.  Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by a chapel service and transit to Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Don in a graveside service.  The services will be officiated by retired Pastor David Doroh, formerly of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Florence.

A native of Florence, Alabama, Anne graduated from the University of Alabama and worked as a teacher prior to her marriage to Don in 1964 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, of which they were active longtime members.  Anne accompanied Don around the country and around the world as he pursued his career in the U.S. Army, while variously continuing her service as a teacher and substitute teacher, with the American Red Cross, and fulfilling the many duties and responsibilities required of an Army commander’s spouse.  Her service extended to her many volunteer activities for her church and for students and education, to include assisting and hosting both US and foreign students at Wake Forest University and the University of North Alabama, and volunteering in a junior high school to establish a club to encourage students to read classic literature.  In more recent years, Anne enjoyed participating in her local book club and garden club and took great pride in tending her home garden.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Ernest and Bobbie Huffman, and her brother Edward.  She is survived by her son Scott and daughter Natalie, grandson Andrew and granddaughter Lauren, her sister Linda Littrell, and her nieces and nephews.

Anne was an inspiration known for her kindness, devotion and service to others, and she will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she blessed.

The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of ElderCare Services, CenterWell Home Health, and Hospice of North Alabama for their care, concern and assistance.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes consideration of charitable donation in Anne’s name to either Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (giving.mskcc.org) or the Lupus Foundation of America .
