She was preceded in death by her father, Walton O. (Buddy) Thompson and grandson Jesse Coleman Brown.

She was the most loving, dedicated wife, mother, and Juju (grandmother) to her family.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Travis R. Powell, mother, Edna Ruth (Newton) Thompson, sister, Debbie Ruth (James Thornton) daughters, Lana Leigh (Russell Brown), Lyndsay Ruth Powell, son, Robert Evan Hamner (Kenzie Fox).  Grandchildren, Lydia Marie Powell (Brandon Slayton), Dante Benson, Damien Benson, Lathan Brown, Breanna Gusmus and Elijah Gusmus.  And a host of cousins and very close friends. All who knew Judith (Juju) loved her.  She owned and operated “The Emma House”, catering and boutique restaurant, bed & breakfast for a number of years.  She also served as the financial secretary for Faith Tabernacle for a number of years. Throughout the years Judith and Travis opened their home to many many people in need, some staying a few days, some a few months and some a few years.

One of her greatest joys was serving others and hosting parties. She had the most giving heart of anyone and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

  1. Travis, my deepest sympathy for Judith’s homegoing. I believe she is enjoying heaven, where we all also shall be someday when our time comes. Remembering our youth together with fond memories. God bless you and your family.

  2. Travis I remember Judith as a giving, caring person who had the ability to make every one welcome and feel glad to be there. From Emma House to your home by the pool to our home for dinner there was always a smile on her face. Those of us who were part of her life for those times are richer because she was part of our lives. I send my deepest sympathy to you and your family. May God’s graces come to you as gifts to give strength and encouragement for the coming days.

Travis I’m so sorry. You and Judith was one of the most joyful couples I’ve ever known. Judith could light up a room she was a joy to know. Even when she wasn’t feeling well she would just keep going, I don’t knowany people that I have laughed as much with. I look forward to seeing her again. I know how much she loves the Lord . But it’s so hard to let her go she left so many wonderful memories . Girls. Travis so sorry again I know how wonderful she was.

  6. I never saw her without a smile! She truly loved life and her family. Praying for all. 🙏

  7. Dear Powell Family,
Words can’t express what a great loss you and friends have suffered. Judith was one of a kind. She was always smiling, helpful, caring, and loving. I don’t think she ever met a stranger.
She was an outstanding cook and enjoyed having friends and family over for a taste of her cuisine.
I guess I did not know how sick she was. I would have tried to help in some way.
God bless you all now and in the days to come.

  8. Judith was loved by all and she will be missed. Praying for the family. I remember her as a joyful person.

  9. Travis,
    And children and grandchildren,
Distance has kept me from seeing you and Judith for years . But I remember the good time we all had at Faith- Tabernacle yrs ago. And Judith growing up there in the area or the little circle that grandma Herston lived and my uncle Curtis and aunt Susie.I know you all will surly miss Judith. But we all will travel that road in our time to go home. You all are in my prayers for the Holy Spirit to comfort you at this time. Take care of your self.
