Dr. Connie Sue Cox Johnson passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus Saturday night
in her home. She was the wife of Dr. Robert E. Johnson, mother to Jay (Teri), Robert
(Tammy), Becky Ramsey (Matt), and Dee, and Nana to Emily Ralph (Charlie), Boone,
Lucy, Kate, Rachel, Eric, Madeline, Ivey, Lydia, and Henry, and two more on the way,
Percival and Alexander. She was the sister of Howard Raymond Cox of Picayune, MS.
She was receded in death by her parents, Marion Howard “Tuck” Cox and Andrea Pearl
“Big Momma” Goodwin Cox.
She was a gentle soul, always kind and sweet. She loved traveling and has traveled all
over the world. She loved to dance and was selected for the very first LSU Ballet Corp,
which evolved into now what is known as the LSU Golden Girls dance line of the LSU
Tiger Marching Band. She loved nature and the outdoors and could grow anything. Her
house was full of plants everywhere. She loved all flowers but especially roses. Yellow
was her favorite color. One of her favorite things was to sit on her porch and watch the
multitude of hummingbirds that came around year after year. She was an amazing
cook, an avid reader, and friend to all.
Professionally she was very much respected in her field and her accomplishments were
many. She was a graduate of Picayune Memorial High School in Picayune, MS, where
she was a majorette in the marching band. She started her college career at LSU,
majoring in Education and finished her education at the University of Alabama with a
Doctor of Education degree. Teaching was her calling. She loved helping kids. She
was passionate about preparing her students for the future. She also had tremendous
leadership skills and served as the Director and Principal of Allen Thornton Career
Technical Center in Killen, Alabama from which she retired. After retirement she served
as President of the Pilot Club of Florence where she put her talents to work volunteering
to improve the lives of those in need in the community through charitable projects,
community service, education and research. She was devoted to helping others
throughout her life.
Connie was sincerely loved and an inspiration to those close to her and will be greatly
missed. The family is planning a celebration of life event in the chapel at Williams
Funeral Home on July 20th 10:00am-12:00pm and invites all friends and family to attend.
