Letson
October 20, 1933 - August 10, 2024
Ruby Jean Barringer Letson, age 90, of Florence, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024. Visitaiton will be Saturday, August 24th from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Florence. The celebration of life will follow at 12:00 noon at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stancell and Mamie Barringer; husband, Bill Letson.
Survivors are her daughters, Dianne Letson and Charlotte Letson Rodgers and husband Mark; grandchildren, Jessica Dunn and husband Matt, and Allison Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Lilah, Oliver and Bodhi Dunn. Born and raised in Rogersville Alabama to Stansell and Mamie Barringer, Ruby was their oldest child and only daughter. Devoted to her parents and to caring for them all of their lives, she remained faithful to their teachings. She was raised by them to be a good and faithful Christian and supporter of the Cumberland Presbyterian church as long as she lived. Her home church of Waddell Memorial in Rogersville and then her permanent church at First Cumberland Florence saw her efforts to do good works and spread His word all of her life. A woman who never intended to marry but rather have a career, she fell in love with Bill and was his for over 40 years. They had two girls, which he got to name since they were girls, and she devoted herself to her family and put her career on hold to care for them. When she did return to work, at a time when most women did not, she did so to not only to provide for her family but to fulfill her own ambition and teach her daughters that a woman can and should do what she has the ability to do and the determination. She quietly paved the way for others to follow in her closed toed pumps every time she walked in a nursing home administrators meeting to be surrounded by men in suits. She supported her church in every way that she could. She served a Sunday school teacher for years, held every office in the CPW, served multiple terms as elder, sat on the Board of Directors for the CP Children’s home, provided outreach to the Choctaw nation CP churches, led mission drives and organized revivals. Her devotion to ensuring the live nativity at First CP was done correctly and “as it should” was noted for 50 years. Attending CPWM synodical retreats was one of the many adventures she shared with the daughters she gave both to and the friends and daughters from her church. Her daughters, Dianne and Charlotte, are the beneficiaries all of her teachings and examples of being devoted to those you love. She provided for them both, in different ways because they had different needs, and loved them greatly. She loved her son by marriage, Mark, and kept the promise she made to his mom to be his mother all of her live. Her devotion to her family knew no limits and had no boundaries. She adored her granddaughters and was so very pleased to attend anything they participated in doing. She watched productions, performances, and parades with great pride and truly loved seeing both Jess and Allie succeed in their efforts and grow up to be beautiful women. She loved welcoming Matt into her family when he and Jess married and was happy with the thought of the planned addition of Scott with Allie’s upcoming wedding. Her great grands, Lilah, Oliver and Bodhi were such special blessings to her. She loved every moment she got to spend with them and every photo and video she got to see. Ruby was much loved by many and will be sorely missed by them. She leaves behind her family, church family, friends and dog, Little Bit. Her example of service, love and devotion will be difficult for those that follow her to live up to. Memorials may be made to 1st Cumberland Presbyterian church of Florence women’s missions

Charlotte and Diane. I am so sorry to hear about Ruby. She was my second Mother at Springfield. I loved her so. I wish I could be with you but we have a church function that day. Just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. She is walking the streets of gold with Buddy, Stancell & Mamie. God Bless You All.
