Maudie Faye (Pettus) Gist, 85, of Killen, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at her childhood home.

Maudie was preceded in death by her husband, W. Bruce Gist; her son, Robin Anthony Gist; her parents, Ruby (Segers) Pettus and J. Britton Pettus; and her brothers, Felix Pettus and J.B. Pettus.

She is survived by a beloved daughter-in-law, many extended family members, and dear and longtime friends. She also leaves behind her cats, Pyewacket and Tony, who were cherished companions and a constant source of joy.

A lifelong resident of Killen and Greenhill, Maudie was known for her grace, her optimism, and her wonderful sense of style. She treasured her friendships and loved spending time with the many close friends she made throughout her life. A voracious reader, it was often said that Maudie had read nearly every fiction book at the Killen Public Library. She also loved decorating and took great pleasure in making her home beautiful and welcoming. For more than 20 years, she worked as a real estate agent, a career that suited her warmth, her love of people, and her connection to the community she called home.

Above all, Maudie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother, and those relationships remained at the heart of her life.

Special thanks are extended to the many healthcare professionals who cared for Maudie throughout her illness and to the parishioners of Killen United Methodist Church for their kindness, prayers, and support.

A private service will be held. A celebration of Maudie’s life may be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children’s.
