Billy Gene Wilson, of Florence, passed away on August 8, 2018 at the age of 85. Billy was a Korean War veteran, having served with the US Air Force. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1959 with a BS degree in mechanical engineering. He worked civil service for 33 years, first at Brookley AFB in Mobile, AL, then at Tinker AF Base in Oklahoma City and lastly at the Naval Base in Corpus Christi, TX. He enjoyed being a member of the Florence Lions for a number of years and served as their treasurer. Billy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Wilson; sister, Barbara Duncan (Erby) of Henagar, AL; brothers, David Wilson (Sharon) of Murphy, NC and Wayne Wilson (Dottie) of Rome, GA; nephews, Dan Hendrix (Li) of Phoenix, AZ, Kenny Wilson (Kellie) of Rossville, GA, Chris Wilson (Marla) of Hendersonville, NC, Tim Wilson of Rome, GA, Jeff Wilson of Rome, GA and Jason Lester (Abby) of Nashville, TN; two nieces, Kim Wilson and Kelly Wilson (Arnie) both of Hendersonville, NC; and brothers-in-law, Hugh Lester (Linda) of Bonaire, GA and Larry White of Henagar, AL. He is also survived by two God children, Jeff Byars (Rhonda) of Austin, TX and Julie Rady of Corpus Christi, TX. The family will hold a private service at a later date.
