Obituary:
DOROTHY LINVILLE BLACKSTOCK, AGE 94, Received her eternal reward with her crown of glory on Sunday, August 26, 2018. She was a resident of Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home. Dorothy was born March 28, 1924 in Wayne County, Tennessee. She became the bride of Clifford Blackstock on August 28, 1943 and was preceded by his death in 1977, after 34 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents Sam and Oma Linville along with her sisters, Lavonne Wooten, Ruth O’Bryant, and brothers, J.W. Linville and Sammy Linville. Dorothy worked diligently to provide and care for the needs of her family. She worked full-time for many years in local sewing factories. Dorothy was a charter member of Faith Tabernacle Church (now known as Faith Church). She served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, and faithful prayer warrior. Even after her health declined, Dorothy continued to lift others in prayer. One of Dorothy’s greatest highlights throughout her life was spending time with her children. She is survived by her two sons, John Blackstock (Shelia) and Donnie Blackstock (Sonya) and daughter, Diane Wilkes (Grant) who will always cherish her lifelong memories. Dorothy was endearingly known as “NeeNaw” to her five grandchildren, Lya Wilkes Chowning (Kevin), Dr. Jason Wilkes (Paula), David Wilkes, Erin Blackstock White (Patrick) and Lori Blackstock Coosenberry (Greg). They were the joy of her life and each one knew it. They too will always cherish her memories in their hearts. NeeNaw is survived by five great-grandchildren, Natalie Chowning, Rebecca Chowning, Claire Wilkes, Emily Wilkes and Issac Coosenberry. She was truly blessed to meet her great-great-granddaughter Eleanor Chowning bringing five generations of daughters together for the first time which was a joy that put a smile across her face. Dorothy is also survived by her three loving sisters, Joyce Hunter of Oxford, AL, Frances Bryson (Gene) of Florence, AL and Iva Braswell (David) of Moody, AL. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Spry-Williams Funeral Home has been entrusted with her care. Visitation will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28 at the funeral home. A Memorial Service to celebrate her entrance into her eternal home will be held at Spry-Williams on Wednesday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Henry Melton and Steve Huskey officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be family members. Many thanks are extended to the entire staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home, with special gratitude to the nurses and CNAs on Station 5 for providing the care that Dorothy needed over the last few years. The family would also like to thank Dr. Robert Mann for his many years of dedicated care, Dwight Holley for the many visits and prayers he shared with her, as well as the Hospice of North Alabama.
