Donald William Rohling, of Florence, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018. A Rosary and Visitation will be held on Monday, November 19th at 6 PM, with the funeral to follow on Tuesday, November 20th at 11 AM. Both will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Pearl Rohling, his brother, Kenneth Rohling, and grandson Hunter Graham Craft. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor Foote Rohling and children Robert Joseph Rohling (Courtney), Christopher William Rohling, Matthew Lawrence Rohling of Florence, and Jeanine Rohling Proctor (Shane) of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren, Dustin Proctor, Chloe Gower (Blake), Kaitlin Craft, Genavieve Rohling, Lauren Rohling, Emily Rohling, Ella Cornelius, and Sterling Cornelius. Don is also survived by his siblings Milton Wallace (Carol), Ann Johnston (Tommy), Linda Cartee (Brent), Jerry Rohling, Evelyn Kimbrough (Sam), Ginger Moreland (Tom), Dorothy Green (Steve), Carolyn South (William), and Ricky Rohling (Marsha). 

Don was born January 5, 1949 in Florence. After graduating from Coffee High School, he attended the University of North Alabama and graduated with a degree in history with a minor in physics in 1971. He later returned to earn an MBA in the ’80s. He began his career in television at WOWL TV in Florence while in high school, and went on to Telepropter Cable where he hosted a local show titled “Spotlight with Don Rohling”. After his time in television, he moved to sales and management with the Times Daily, next, to the security guard and staffing field with Dynamic Security and Staffing. He then went onto work in medical equipment with Northgate Pharmacy then to the hospice field with Southern Care Hospice. Don retired from Rohling Dental Laboratory in 2015. 

He was an active member of the Downtown Florence Kiwanis Club and twice served as President and once as a Lieutenant Governor. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3989 and once served as Grand Knight. He was an advocate for and the current President of NAMI Shoals. He delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, was a former member of the North Alabama Press Association, worked with and was past President of the local Alzheimer Association, and was active with Relay for Life. 

He thoroughly loved his family and his community and had never met a stranger. He was truly a friend to all. 

The family is grateful to the dedicated staff of Huntsville Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NAMI Shoals, the St. Joseph School Foundation, the Downtown Florence Kiwanis Club, the Knights of Columbus Council #3989, the American Diabetes Association, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Spry Williams Funeral Home is directing.
