Thomas Edward
McHugh

April 29, 1935 - December 29, 2018

Thomas E. McHugh died December 29, 2018 following an extended illness. Family visitation will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 11am – 12pm and be immediately followed by a celebration of his life in the Church. A private entombment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.
Our “Dad, Pappy, and Alabama Tom” will best be remembered for his outgoing personality, contagious humor, and “gift of gab”.  Pappy’s gift of coaching extended beyond sports to encourage others to achieve their personal goals.

Tom and Dorothy were so blessed to enjoy 56 years of happiness in raising a family and cherishing special times with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends prior to Dorothy’s death in 2013.  Family was the heart of Pappy’s existence with his recent final Christmas prayer encouraging his family to “always be the friendliest of friends”.
He is survived by his children, Lynn Underwood (Milton), Sherri Glover (Steve), Tom McHugh (Beth); grandchildren, Andrea Linville, Allison Underwood, Dane Glover (Andrea), Morgan McHugh, Abby McHugh, and Graham McHugh; great-grandchildren, Bryce Linville, Jake Linville, John Thomas Glover, and Ellie Kate Glover. In addition to his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, Tom is survived by his dearly loved friend Marilyn Argue and second family at West View Ridge in Haines City, Fla.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and staffs of Mitchell-Hollingsworth NRC, Community Care Hospice, and Brookdale Florence for their compassionate care during Pappy’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the St. Joseph School Foundation, 115 Plum St. Florence, AL 35630, and/or a charity of personal choice.
