James Thomas Johnston, Jr., age 71, of Killen, passed away April 28, 2019. Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Faith Church of Florence. A celebration of his life will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Steve Huskey and Brother Ted “Sonny” Vafeas officiating.
Tommy was a graduate of Coffee High School, Florence State and Samford Universities. He was a registered pharmacist and moved to Collinwood, TN in 1974, where he operated Collinwood Drugs for 45 years. He loved his employees and the entire Collinwood community, and was an announcer for Collinwood Football. In 1995 he moved his family to Killen to live on the lake.
Tommy loved fishing and was an avid fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and Crimson Tide football. He loved his family dearly, especially any activities involving his grandchildren. He never missed any activity in which any of his grandchildren participated.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Corinne Mitchell Johnston. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Ann Rohling Johnston; sons, Bill Johnston (Tara), Blake Johnston (Kacy) and Blair Johnston (Heather); grandchildren, Dylan, Lindsey Beth, Annalee, Braxton, Owen, Ella, and Eli; granddog, Birdie; sisters, Connie Butler (Lionel) and Beth McRight (Tom); and special friends, David Frye (Nancy) and Donnie Barrier (Shelia).
Special attendants will be the Shoals Thunder Baseball Team and their coaches. The family would like to express their appreciation to Kindred Hospice, especially Kristy Roberts, for their loving care

This is so sad 😢 😢 I was Tommy’s customer for the time I lived in Collinwood, he was the most amazing persona, kind, friendly, respectful… Always eager to help you with a great smile. You will always be missed by everyone that had the pleasure to meed you. R. I. P. 😢 😢 😢

So sorry to hear about the passing of Tommy. He and I were in the same graduating class of 1965 at Coffee High School. Then went on to open a pharmacist in my hometown of Collinwood, TN. Praying for the family and friends during this time of grief.
