Julia Keys Stewart, age 90, of Florence, passed away September 10, 2020. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 12, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother John Brock and Brother Chris Underwood officiating. A pritate burial will follow at Tri-Cities Mausoleum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thalia and Charlie Paul Phillips; daughter, Deborah Hinton; and husband, Eldon Stewart.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Clanton and wife, Carol, of Tuscaloosa, and Randy Clanton and wife, Sandy, of Florence; and grandchildren, Nancy (Marcus) Watson of North Carolina, Ryan (Christy) Clanton of Tuscaloosa, Adrienne (Chris) Simmons of Corinth, MS, Allison Nokes of Nashville, TN, Christy (Nick) Rice of Mableton, GA, Kayla and Katie Brooke Clanton of Florence.
Julia enjoyed her church, working in her flower beds, and Alabama football. She was names “Woman of the Year” in Del Rio, Texas, for school year 1983-1984 special education. She retired as a special education teacher from Waterloo School.
The family would like to thank the staff of Green Oaks Inn and the staff of Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for the care they provided during the last 8 years. A special thank you to Dr. Lyman Mitchell and his staff for the years upon years of treatment of mother.

My family and I loved Julia very much. She will be missed. May she rest in peace in heaven with my Aunt Deb. Sending our love and prayers to this wonderful family.

Julia and I taught together at Waterloo. She was an ideal teacher/mentor and a wonderful friend. God bless her family as they face each day.
