J.C. Bates, age 96, of Killen, passed away May 28, 2022. Visitation will be Friday, 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Williams Funeral Home, Florence, Alabama with service will immediately following. Burial will be in Haleyville Cemetery.
Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Bates and Hester Brown; siblings, Dovie Dorothy Knapp, Ethel Bates, Andy Bates, Grover Bates, Bud Bates, Virginia Bates, Jessie Midgett and Johnny Bates. Others preceding Mr. Bates were his first wife, Ruby L. Bates; second wife, Gracie Lee Bates; children, Martha Bates, Betty-Jo Driver, Robert Kent Bates, Jimmy Leon Bates, and David Bates.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Pounders; grandchildren, Lisa Pellegrin, Richard Bates, Steven Bates (Patricia), Christie Pounders; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bates was a loving caring father. He was a WWII Veteran. He enjoyed working on cars and small motors. He also enjoyed bird watching and CB Radios. He was an extremely hard worker and continued to work after he retired.

J.C was my great uncle he was truly an amazing genuine good person.I remember going to visit them up north in Illinois and how he was so funny. He was my grandmother’s brother. We love you guys.
