Harry Delano Smith, age 69, of Killen, passed away Wednesday,
December 6, 2023. Visitation will be Saturday, December 9th from 10:30 am until 1:30 pm at Williams Funeral Home of Florence. The service will follow at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel with Brother Randy Hargett officiating. Entombment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be D.J Hall, Glen Jones, Hal Gist, Chuck Lindsey, David McCullough, and Bill Hubbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Grigsby, Bubba Stockton, Rod Bowling, and Anthony Bradley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius E. and Nadine O. Smith; granddaughter, Elizabeth Glory Savage.

Survivors are his son, Benjamin Delano Smith (Angela) and Rebekah Joy Savage (Thomas); sisters, Linda Jane Grigsby and Rebecca Suzanne Stockton; grandchildren, Hannah Joy Savage, Mary Hope Savage, John Valor Savage, Tucker Jordan Smith, Tanner James Smith, and Taylor Marie Smith.

Harry was a member of Mission of Mercy Shoals and was involved in various addiction recovery groups including ministries of Cross Point Church of Christ and Grace House Ministries. He received the Keller Key (highest academic award) at UNA in 1975 and was a high school principal from 1989 to 2002. He was instrumental in Muscle Shoals High School receiving honors for Blue Ribbon School in 1991, America’s Best Schools (Red Book) in 1996, and chosen as Alabama’s Best Administrator of the year in 1997.   1. Suzanne, I am so sorry about Harry. I was just reminiscing about when we were little girls (tomboys) running around the house – how patient he was with us when we probably got on his nerves! He had such a brilliant mind. Through the years, I would occasionally run into him somewhere in town and he was always kind and friendly. I know you are going to miss your big brother. I apologize I won’t be able to make his service because I have Covid right now. Just know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I love and miss you. Call me sometime – 256-810-1010.

  2. I’m sorry so for the passing of sweet Harry. I knew him from MHBS and just a great person and friend . I pray for the family and giving my condolences. He will be greatly missed.
