January 25, 1949 - July 10, 2024
David “Dave” John Cavanaugh age 75, of Florence, entered into the Joy of the Lord on July 10, 2024. There will be no services at this time. However, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering announced by the family at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Vincent Cavanaugh and Beverly Jean Culhane Cavanaugh and his sister Patty Cavanaugh Gilbertson.
Dave is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Caddell Cavanaugh. His children; Toni Cavanaugh Roy (Joseph), David John Cavanaugh Jr., and Heidi Jones Saddler (Ron). His grandchildren; Stewart Roy, Scarlett Roy, Eryn Carroll, and Haley Roberson. His great-grandchildren; Mathew, Kyler and Reagan. Sisters; Susan Cavanaugh Ribstein, Sheila Cavanaugh, and Rea Cavanaugh McKeown (Rick). As well as his brother-in-law Michael Caddell, sister-in-law Debbie Caddell Shultz (Bud) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Dave was born in South Dakota where he lived until entering the Air Force in 1968, serving in Vietnam. He worked at different jobs throughout his life but he excelled in the automotive parts industry. He enjoyed cars and racing of all kinds. Some of his fondest memories were of pheasant hunting in South Dakota. He not only loved hunting these beautiful birds but thoroughly enjoyed eating them.
Dave was dearly loved by his family and friends and considered them all to be the treasures in his life.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the nurses and doctors at North Alabama Medical Center. The care and compassion you gave to Dave will never be forgotten.

Dave you were a beautiful soul that was loved by many. I remember our chats so many years ago when I stayed at your house a lifetime ago.. you were so wise and so very understanding of my circumstances. I know you with the lord now so it’s not goodbye it’s see you someday ..
We met Dave through his wife Carolyn. It was a fast friendship. We visited back and forth and always had a good time. We played cards, grilled out and just had a good old time. You could not ask for a better friend. He was my go-to person when it came to knowing what was wrong with my car. I’d go to his work and describe a noise it was making or ask him if they had a thing-a-ma-jig and he always knew what I needed. Just plain and simple, he was an amazing guy. He loved his family and his friends. He will be missed by many. Until we meet again Sweet Dave.
I am sorry for your loss. I t has been a long time since we have seen each other but David John was never forgotten. I have had him in my prayers and now I will say a prayer for you his family.
