Neil Jerome
English
November 26, 1952 - March 12, 2025
Neil Jerome English, age 72, of Sheffield, Alabama passed away March 12, 2025. It was Neil’s request to have no service. Instead, he would like everyone to donate to their local animal shelter or pet rescue in his memory. That’s who Neil was! Selfless until the very end.
Neil was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Lavaca English, father Arnold Aaron English, and son Jonothan Neil English.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Lee Cook-English, daughter Rachel Louise English (Sly) of Florida, son Timothy Aaron English (Laurin) of Alabama, and grandchildren Frances, Geneva, Brandon, Jojo, Jordan, Sawyer, Colton, Preston, and Charley.
After his high school graduation in 1970 from Robert E. Lee High School in Huntsville, Alabama, Neil began his life-long work of service to his country, his community, his family and friends, and to an expansive number of people and animals (especially dogs) that crossed his path. He served as an Alabama State Trooper, presented with the Public Safety Life Saving Award in 1983 at Luverne, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army as Military Police, receiving several commendations. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Neil served in the Alabama Army National Guard as Military Police, and as Medical Specialist and ambulance driver. He also trained and flew for the U. S. Airforce as Aerial Enforcement Observer and Dopler Radar Operations during his National Guard tour. After his retirement from 30 years of Military Service, Neil continued to serve. He served as U.S. Mail Carrier, certified Radiology Technician for Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital (Florence, AL) and Helen Keller Hospital (Sheffield, AL), Emergency Medical Technician, and finally retired in 2024 from his service as a HazMat Driver for Tanner Industries in Cherokee, Alabama.
In everything he did, Neil gave it his all. He will be missed by those closest to him and by a countless number of people and animals whose lives he touched throughout his time here with us. We are all thankful and grateful for Neil’s service.
