Vernon Ray
Sartain

March 6, 1940 - November 20, 2025

With grateful hearts for a life well lived, we celebrate Vernon Ray Sartain, 85, of Florence, Alabama, who passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on November 20, 2025. Visitation will be Sunday, November 23 at Williams Funeral Home from 12:30 – 2:00 pm and the service starting at 2:00 pm in the chapel. A private family burial will take place at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Born in Sheffield, AL, on March 6, 1940, Vernon was the son of Horace and Loretta Sartain. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Betty, Barbara, and Elaine.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra McKee Sartain. Together they built a strong, loving family who was blessed beyond measure. Vernon was the proud dad of Melanie Marsh (Craig), Ray Sartain (Kim), Patrick Sartain (Nancy), Shawn Sartain (Cassandra), and Alice Parrott (David). His legacy continues through 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, each one blessed by his humor, affection, and encouragement.

A lifelong salesman and entrepreneur, Vernon had a genuine gift for connecting with people. He never met a stranger—only a new friend waiting to be made. His jokes, stories, and warm personality turned everyday moments into memories.

Vernon’s faith was the heartbeat of his life. As a member of Faith Church in Florence, he found joy in worship, service, and fellowship. His laughter was affectionate to everyone he met even while driving the church van, bringing joy to everyone around him.

Those who knew Vernon will remember the simple things: the way he lit up a room, the way he made people feel seen, and the way his smile could turn a difficult day around. His legacy is not just in the years he lived, but in the joy and kindness he poured into family and friends—gifts that will continue through generations.

We thank his doctors, the staff and friends at the Renaissance Assisted Living, his lifelong pastor’s and his best friend’s Brother Henry and Clara Melton for all their care and friendship.

Officiating will be Brother Henry Melton and Dwight Holley. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to Globe International in support of missionaries, Greg and Anna Nemer.

We thank God for Vernon’s laughter, his love, and the blessing of having him in our lives. Though he has left this world, the joy he gave us will remain forever.

  1. God bless and keep this sweet family as they deal with the great loss of Vernon. I did not get to see him or Sandra often, but I love them so much. They have always been a great friend and source of joy to me.
