Although he endured many health problems, especially in the past few months, he always kept a spirit of gratitude for his blessings and his salvation.
Dad was born on October 9, 1951, in Florence, Alabama and grew up at Cherry Hill. He and Mom started dating as teenagers and were married after they finished high school, having us kids a few short years later. Dad and Mom received their salvation through Jesus Christ when we were small children, and they raised us to love the Lord. Until he passed, he thanked God first and foremost for having made it thus far and he attributed the rest to Mom and her kind heart.
He loved the outdoors throughout his childhood and especially as an adult. For many years, he enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. The older he grew, the more he liked to just go to the woods and sit and reflect. He appreciated the beauty of God’s creation deeply and was gifted with the ability to design, build and repair just about anything he wanted or needed to do. He worked on cars, construction, and plumbing; he whittled pieces of cedar into works of art.
He instilled a strong work ethic in us and emphasized the need for us to get a good education. With our parents’ encouragement, we both graduated from college and Dad was so proud of our accomplishments.
David loved his granddaughters immensely and enjoyed playing with them in the floor when they were tiny and talking to them about their interests as they got older. He was so amazed at how talented they were.
Although we will miss Dad every day, we are so thankful that he is with the Lord and enjoying God’s love eternally. We look forward to being reunited with him in Heaven someday.
Special thanks to the staff at Keller Hospital, Brother Miles Stutts and all of the wonderful family at Atlas Church of Christ.
