Larry Edwin Murphy, age 77, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 10th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home of Florence. The service will be Monday, August 11th at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Brother Chris Aday officiating. He will be laid to rest at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Murphy, Desmond Murphy, Wil Murphy, Nathan Murphy, Jayden Murphy, and Alvin Poss Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the Lee Heights Life Group Class, “Salt and Pepper”.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nikki Murphy; grandson, Nic Murphy; parents, Buddy and Helen Murphy.

Survivors are his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra Staggs Murphy; children, Edwina Murphy and Dwayne Murphy (Brayde); grandchildren, Desmond Murphy, Wil Murphy (Anna), and Nathan Murphy; great-grandsons, Jayden Murphy and Reid Murphy and their loving dog Myles;  siblings, Linda Hanson (Larry), Butch Murphy (Pam), Dan Murphy (Judy), Don Murphy (Janie), and Brenda Broadfoot; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Faye and a very special friend Pat Spires.

Larry was a God-fearing man that dedicated his life to God many years ago. He was an active member of Lee Heights Baptist Church.

He started working at Fuzzy’s Feeds straight out of high school. After many years there he briefly worked for EA Nelson and Martin Supply.  He then became employed with the Lauderdale County CO-OP in Elgin, where he retired as manager in December of 2016.

He was very hands on with the local farming industry. He loved the Central Heights Community and was involved in several community organizations.  He was an avid sportsman that included playing golf, duck hunting and deer hunting with his grandsons. Larry coached his children in dixie youth sports. He spent 25 plus years officiating dixie youth, high school and college sports.

Larry’s world revolved around his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved deeply.

  2. Larry was so kind he always listened to me when I needed to vent at work he invited me to Lee heights church every easter I sat with him and his wife several years I know he is not suffering and is at peace but will be missed so very much. RIP Larry
