B. Schedell “Doc” Walley, MD Billy Schedell Walley, known to most as “Doc,”
passed away suddenly at his home on August 10, 2022 at the age of 66.
He was born on May 14, 1956. Doc graduated high school from Waynesboro
Central High School in 1974, and he went on to become a family/general
medicine physician, graduating from the University of Mississippi School of
Medicine in 1981. After medical school, he practiced medicine throughout
southeastern Mississippi hospitals in Waynesboro, Heidelberg, Meridian, and
Quitman. He and his family then moved to the Shoals area in 1994 where he
practiced at Med+Plus at their Florence and Muscle Shoals locations for many
years. After recovering from some health struggles, he began practicing at
Time To Lose Weight Loss Clinics.

He was loved dearly by his patients, coworkers, and community as a kind and
caring physician who truly loved helping people. Songwriting was something
that Doc lived and breathed even from a young age, learning from his mother
the art of song and lyrics. Even before moving to the Shoals, he became heavily
involved in the music business and never slowed, still constantly finding
himself in a “writing muse” and recording estimated 10 demos per year. The
recording studio was Doc’s favorite place to be. He also frequented traveling
up to Nashville where he joined with other writers to collaborate. Three of his
most successful cowriting credits were “America Will Always Stand” (Randy
Travis), which landed on the Billboard Country Charts at the time of its debut,
“A Carpenter’s Son” (Sawyer Brown), and “Seconds Count” (Shenandoah),
which was nominated for a Dove Award in 2016.

Another love of Doc’s was sports; any time spent with him would quickly
make you learn he was a deeply rooted Ole Miss fan, win or lose. In the early
2000s, Doc had the opportunity of leading the junior high basketball team at
his sons’ school, Florence Christian Academy, and always loved reminiscing on
his time as a coach and his team.

Doc’s biggest love was his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life,
and being “Papa Doc” to them all brought him the most joy. He was looked up
to by many and was called a friend by so many more. Doc was one of a big,
joyous laugh and soft unwavering strength. He was a constant learner and

student, yet while being full of wisdom and knowledge. His faith was the core
pillar of his identity, and he loved to share his faith and love for the Lord at
any moment in his day. Always, he was an encouragement and never was
without an uplifting word. As he would say, “Life is now, so live it now!”
Doc was preceded in death by his father, Billy Carl Walley, and his stepfather,
David A. Haynes. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Donna Walker Walley;
sons, James Walker Walley (Bridget) and Micah Brewer Walley (Sarah);
grandchildren, Alyssa Owens, Gracie Mae Walley, and Emma Claire Walley;
mother, Jimmie L. (Becki Bluefield) Haynes, and stepmother, Inell Walley;
brother, Rev. Dejuan Walley (Kaye); and several nieces and nephews. He also
leaves behind his beloved pets, Sydney, Saydee, and Leroy.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Doc Walley on Sunday, August 14,
2022 at Williams Funeral Home, 1950 Helton Drive, in Florence, AL. Visitation
will be from 3-5pm, and a service will follow at 5pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at any Bank Independent location to
assist with final expenses.
