Sandra Freeman
Krieger

September 3, 1947 - February 3, 2023

Heaven gained another sweet soul on February 3, 2023, with the passing of Sandra Freeman Krieger.  The family will receive friends at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Friday, February 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  A rosary will follow at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Abbott Cletus Meagher, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband Charles Krieger, of 57 years; father, Clent Freeman; mother, Faye Freeman; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Robison (Ed).

Survivors include her children, Suzanne McGee (Todd), Charlie Krieger (Jennifer), and Freeman Krieger; grandchildren, Audrey McGee, Charleeann Krieger, Brad Krieger, Nathan Krieger, Ian McGee, Huntley Krieger (Emily), Benjamin McGee; great-grandson, Leon Krieger; sisters, Brenda Freeman and Patricia Frye (John); and brother, Clent (Dog) Freeman (Robbie Rogers Hill), and a large extended family who loved her dearly.

Sandra touched the lives of so many people, from her early work as a beautician, bus driver/Cafeteria manager at Hope Haven and St Joseph Catholic Schools, to cooking and catering parties, anniversaries, and weddings for numerous people. She constantly shared her culinary secrets and was a friend and confidant to anyone who was in need. She especially had a tender heart for special needs children and actively supported Hope Haven until her health prevented it. She and a friend started the Loaves and Fishes program at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, which provides home cooked meals to homebound individuals, as well as the Christmas Sharing program which provides gifts and food to the Benedictine sisters and priests of Sacred Heart Convent and St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman.

Sandra loved the beach, the mountains and travelling. She and Charles made numerous trips across the country sightseeing and visiting with family. She was a master at telling stories and entertained her friends with her humorous accounts of life.

Sandra’s family was her world, not only her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, but her extended family as well. She often organized family dinners and greatly enjoyed spending time with all of them. She also loved animals and nature just as much.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers, Joan Meyer, Jenny McLaughlin Eggers and Sallie Polk, as well as Pete Williford who was so kind to her while transporting her to her medical appointments, the staff from Helen Keller Home Health, Clearview Cancer Institute and Medical Associates of the Shoals, Dr. Courtney Bowen, and the Mid-Lauderdale Volunteer Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church Loaves and Fishes program, 2751 County Road 61, Florence, AL  35634, or to the Sacred Heart Convent, 916 Convent Rd NE, Cullman, AL 35055.

  1. I am so sorry, she was a sweet lady and always had a beautiful smile. Suzanne you and all the family are in my prayers.

  2. We love you – always have and always will! Our hearts are broken! The heavens are rejoicing with you and Charles among the angels! We will all rejoice being together again!🙏🏼 Rest now – many thanks for everything and being there for all of us – you and Charles are greatly missed 💔🙏🏼✝️🥰

  3. I was blessed to have had Sandra as a mentor since I was a pre-teen! What a kind, loving, selfless, woman who truly “walked the walk” despite her physical limitations. I take comfort in knowing that she is at peace with her love, Charles and Mom Faye! I will continue to think of Sandra so very often when I smell cheese straws, and embark on a trip “Lord protect us from harm and from harming anyone” as Faye said when she would get in the car at Green Oaks Inn! xoxo
