January 14, 1932 - February 19, 2023

Edward Mayfield Behel, Jr., age 91, of Florence, passed away February 19, 2023.  Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Jacksonburg Church of Christ.  The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the church with Brothers Austin Swinea and Gary Gooch officiating.  Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Behel was preceded in death by his son, William Donald Behel; parents, Edward and Waymon Behel; and sister, Lena Mae Glasscock and husband, Boyce.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Bevis Behel; children, Sharon Darlene Green (Steve) and Edward “Trey” Behel; daughter-in-law, Susan Behel; grandchildren, Stephene Nix (Matt), Heath Behel (Lauren), Michelle Hudson (Bryan) and Jordan Behel (Courtney); great-grandchildren, Max and Charlee Hudson, Levi, Jace and Henry Nix, Logan and Walker Behel, and Kaiden and Layla Behel.

Mr. Behel  was a member of the Jacksonburg Church of Christ.   He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Alabama football, fishing, camping, and riding his tractor.  He was a friend to everyone and gave the best hugs.

Pallbearers will be Heath Behel, Jordan Behel, Matt Nix, Bryan Hudson, Max Hudson, and Farron Bevis.   Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Bevis, Don Newton, Levi Nix and Doyle Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jacksonburg Church of Christ.  Condolences may be left at wfunerals.com.

  2. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shirley, Darlene, Trey, and all the family at this sad time. Junior was such a kind and thoughtful person and will be missed very much by all of us at Jacksonburg.
