Calvin Eugene “Gene” Flannagan, age 88, of Leighton, passed away December 22, 2018. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at North Alabama State Fairgrounds. The funeral will be Thursday, December 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home of Florence, with Brother Henry Melton officiating. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Leighton.
Gene was a member of the Baptist faith. He coached women’s slow pitch softball for various recreation leagues around the Shoals for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching westerns.
Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 68 years, Laura Maude Flannagan; daughter, Doris Jean; parents, Buford and Cora Mae Flannagan; and siblings, Edward, Junior and Marie
Survivors include his sons Billy (Tona), Larry (Teresa), Ken (Donna), and Dwight; daughters, Barbara (Curtis) Campbell, Dianne Flannagan, Ruby (Lynn) Robbins and Donna (Ken) Bailey; 7 grandsons; 8 granddaughters; 7 great-grandsons; and 6 great-granddaughters.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Cottage of the Shoals and Alacare Hospice for their loving care.
