John William Mecke, Jr., 69, of Florence, AL, passed away January 23, 2019, at NAMC.

Known for his work ethic and integrity, John’s faith and family were paramount in his life.  He was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Florian and a member of Teamster Local #402 retiring from YRC Trucking Co.  John loved farming, livestock, and everything nature had to offer.  He was knowledgeable and witty.  He enjoyed talking about his ancestry, his church, and the Town of St. Florian. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary Service starting at 8:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  On Monday, January 28, 2019, at 9:30 a.m., visitation will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Father John O’Donnell, O.S.B. will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

John was preceded in death by his parents – John W. Mecke, Sr. and Henrietta J. Mecke; brother -Kenneth Lewis Mecke; and step-son – Steve Hennessee.

Survivors include his wife – Delilah Mecke; brothers – Charles (Beth) Mecke and David Mecke; step-son – Bob Hennessee; step-grandchildren – Ashley (Michael) Bixler, Ali (Andy) Jones, and Hagen Hennessee; niece – Anne Marie Mecke; step-nephew – Stephen Larrimore; and three great-granchildren.Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
