Carl Anthony “Tony” McKey, age 62, of Florence, was promoted from this world on August 8, 2022. The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, August 13, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Mack Dean officiating.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Austin McKey and Stella Mae Pettus; brother, Raymond McKey; and beloved son, Robert.
Survivors include his loving, kind wife, Johnette Stockard McKey; his loving daughter, Alicia Partain, Sara Ress (Josh); son, Jon Richardson (Stephanie); grandchildren, Emma, Laekyn, Austyn, and Parker June; brother, Mike McKey, sister, Debbie Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tony was a member of Faith Church. Tony was known as the self-appointed mayor of Zip City, which he had a lot of fun with. He loved making people laugh, helping people, riding his Harley, but most of all, he loved God and had a heart for leading people to Jesus. Condolences may be left at wfunerals.

Tony will be missed by so many in the Day by Day grief support group. He reached out to many people who also have lost children. He frequently discussed with me ways to bring comfort to others. He hurt deeply every time he heard someone else had suffered a loss similar to his own. Tony wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable and was open and honest with his feelings. His heart was crushed when Robert died but he tried hard to ease other’s pain. Through Tony, we learned about Robert whom Tony fondly referred to as Tadpole! As a group, we have shared laughter and tears as we listened to his Robert stories. I will always be thankful for having known Tony and hope he knew how much our group loved and appreciated him. He has touched us deeply and will be in our hearts forever!
Tony always made our day. My youngest daughter always had to say hi to him everyday. He literally took time out of his exhausting work to make a 3 year old smile. Every time she plays with tools (real ones) she makes me call her Mr. Tony. I told her that Tony won’t be back again, that he lives in heaven with her grandma. She had the deepest sadness come across her face and with her head down asked Why? I told her that sometimes our souls grow so big that they go to heaven and don’t need our bodies anymore. That he will always be watching and helping “Miss Ella” from heaven. Every time we walk by the maintenance room she still says, “That’s Mr. Tony’s house!!!!” with great excitement. I can even start to explain how beautiful Mr. Tony’s house is now, but boy is it an upgrade!! I am so deeply sorry for you and your families loss, he made a difference in our lives, daily. A few people have asked me why and I share the same answer each time. We can’t ask Godly questions and expect Earthly answers. I know he was a man of God, Family and Community. I know that you can’t be that strong of a soul and be anywhere but heaven. Many others around here share the same feelings. He made a difference in life and will continue to do so for eternity. Johnette, I didn’t know Tony but I’m sure he was a great man just reading the remarks from others. I know you and I am so sad for your loss but really thankful to read he was truly a man of God. Tony will be missed. He was a such a sweet any funny guy, always trying to make people smile and laugh. He was genuine and I truly enjoyed working with him. I know he’s smiling now, no more sadness, and he’s reunited with his son. I’m sure they’re having a party in Heaven.
