Charles Edward Phillips, age 82, of Killen, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church Center Star.  The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm with Brother Ronny Jones officiating.  Burial will be at Center Star Cemetery.

Charles is preceded in death by his father, Claudus Neal Phillips; mother, Lutie Mae Roberson Phillips; brother, Jesse Dee Phillips; sisters, Vellaree Camp and Martha Davis; and son-in-law, Max Barnett.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Barbara Phillips; children, Brent Phillips (Kristie), Whitney Barnett, and Brandi McGee (Jeremy). Additional survivors include grandchildren, Garrett Phillips (Stephanie), Carson Phillips (Emily), Kaylee McGee, and Laynee McGee (Mason); great-grandchildren, T.J. Davis and GraceLynn Phillips.

Charles was a deacon at First Baptist Church Center Star and a member of Killen Lion’s Club. He enjoyed bass fishing, playing golf, spending time with his family and friends and watching Alabama football. Charles was a natural businessman who was known for his many accomplishments and successful projects most notably Phillips Backhoe and Cleaning, which he founded in 1960. He was a Godly man, loving husband, devoted father and Pa, and respected community member.

Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Paul Butler, Mike Dotson, Jeremy McGee, Wayne Parker, Garrett Phillips, and Carson Phillips.

Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Johnson, Corbin Nabers, and Willie White.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Mann, Matt and Jenny from Hospice of North Alabama, and his special caretakers from Visiting Angels: Cassandra, KayKay, Kristina, Jada, and Julie.

  3. I consider Mr Phillips one of the greats of center star. I’ll miss his smile for he always lit one’s heart up with it and u just knew he cared and loved the Lord. He will be missed by all. Our family will keep everyone in our prayers. All of you follow in his footsteps …..someday the reunion in heaven will be so sweet . The Bible says we will be known as were known so I believe that same spirit in his smile will be there to greet us all

  5. May God continue to wrap his hands around this lovely family. I did not know Mr. Phillips personally but the way Brandi loved her daddy and talks about him you can tell he was an awesome man. I’m sure y’all made great memories and just know he will continue to be with you everyday. I will continue to pray for the family🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
