William Gary
Hallmark

September 29, 1953 - February 11, 2023

Willliam Gary Hallmark “Hallmark”, 69 of Florence Alabama passed away Saturday February 11, 2023 at his home. Visitation will be on February 14, 2023 from 12:00 – 1:00pm at Williams Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life immediately following. Burial will be private.

Gary was born on September 29, 1953 in Florence, Al. He was an avid Alabama fan. Most of his days were spent at SWB. His favorite pastime, the one that exceeded all other aspects of his life, was being a Papaw to his grandbabies. They were his world and he was theirs.

He was “often imitated” but he could never be duplicated. He was the definition of an honest hardworking man. Our Daddy/Papaw will be forever remembered as someone we knew we could count on. Someone who gave the best advice whether you wanted it or not. A man that would give someone the shirt off of his back and always put others before himself.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Emma Jean Hallmark; sister, Linda Hallmark Meek; and brother-in-law, Marvin Meek.

Survivors include his children, Kara Hallmark-Grubbs and Amy Hallmark; grandchildren, Allison, Haley, Hayden  and William “Riley” Grubbs;  sisters, Janet Lammers and Carol Henley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  1. Very sorry for your loss. Gary was always really good to me. I’m sure the grandchildren know this already, but I can tell you he loved you more than anything. He talked about you all the time and with such pride. I will miss my friend.

  2. Since I retired I saw Gary almost everyday. I will miss him. I loved to talk Alabama football with him, something he truly enjoyed. So sorry for your loss.

  3. My condolences for your loss. I have a lot of fond memories growing up as the Hallmark’s next door neighbor. Gary was like our big brother. Wish we had stayed in touch but the tributes I’ve read are how I would have guessed Gary would have grown up – a loyal friend and a loving father.

  4. Carol, Janet and family;
    I am so sorry to hear about Gary’s passing.
    He was always such a sweet and friendly guy, and I know he was a great brother, Dad, and Grandad…My prayers are with you all at this sad time and you are all in my thoughts.
    Sincerely, Carolyn (McGee) Irons
