Anna Lee Hickman was born on November 10, 1928, in Franklin County, TN to John Isaac and Lavaga Pogue Green. She died Wednesday, March 6th in Decatur, Alabama. She was married to Robert Warren Hickman, who preceded her in death after 59 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Porter Green, her sisters, Alamaye Cagle and Juanita Grissom, and her son, Robert Warren Hickman, Jr. She is survived by her grandchildren, Miranda (Jarrod) Worker, and Andrew (Jessi) Hickman, her great-grandchildren, Noah and Sofie Worker, and Keira and Mason Hickman, and Eartha Goodlett, and her daughter-in-law, Helen Hickman.

After graduating from Huntland High School in TN, she worked for South Central Bell for 35 years. After retiring, she returned to school at the University of North Alabama. She did freelance writing and was published in numerous magazines and newspapers. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sheffield, AL, and served faithfully for almost 20 years in the children’s department. After living a long life, a favorite saying of hers was a quote from Abraham Lincoln, “And at the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

The funeral will be at Williams Funeral Home in Florence, AL on Wed, March 13th. Visitation starts at 10 am, with the service following at 10:30 am. The burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens following the funeral.

  1. My children and I met “grandma Anna” a few short months ago. But I will say she stole our hearts with her gentleness and warm heart. She affectionately showered us with hugs and kisses and we will never forget her life in ours 💐 💗 till we meet again beautiful grandma Anna xoxoxo💞
