April 11, 1942 - May 6, 2024

James Alvin Thigpen Sr., age 82, of Florence, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024. Visitation will be Friday, May 10th from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home of Florence. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Nathan Raines and Brother Terry Walker officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mae Thigpen; brother, Buford Thigpen; granddaughters, Amber Scott and Lakrisha Thigpen; grandson, Deven Kujath.

Survivors are his loving wife, Stella Thigpen; children, Bonnie Scott (Ricky), Judy Herston, James A. Thigpen Jr., (Kim), James Lee Thigpen, Dennis Thigpen, Donna Peters, Amanda Johnson, and Jody Littleton (Valerie); sister, Lucille Richardson; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an honest, hardworking, Christian man. He worked thirty-five plus years at The City of Florence and after retiring, he later went back and worked several more years. He also worked for Williams Funeral Home. He was the pastor at Lock Six Baptist Church, and he continued preaching at several different churches until his health stopped him this past year. He loved going camping and fishing with his family and enjoyed working in his garden. He loved to build things with wood, such as a butterfly whatnot, bread box, potato bin, and even a chest of drawers that was passed through family for over ten years. He enjoyed going on vacation with his son Jr. to Gatlinburg and he especially enjoyed visiting the Comedy Club. He was loved by all his family and friends, and he will be missed by all.

  1. Alvin yes you will be missed by so mine people you touched so mine lives . You was the one to baptized me when I was 18 years old and you were the one that brought me back home to Christ and you made me see things in a whole different way than the way I did see thing . Now I’m not a young lady anymore but now I’m older and I see things in a whole different way as a child of my Father Lord God child eyes I see how the Bible is fulfilling and how things are coming to a head as it is told from the Bible and I have to thank you for that bring me back to a Christian life style. Thank you Alvin like I said you will be missed by so mine people that are left on this Earth until we meet again one day.

  2. Only met Brother Alvin once about 3-4 weeks ago, when he visited our church. What a special man! My prayers are with you all,
