I am so sorry to hear Steve passed away. I work with him at Penney. He was a nice man.
Arnold, Dale and Steve were very special friends of our family. Steve was at our house or my brother was at their house while we were growing up. We’re sorry to hear Steve passed away.
Steve was a very good, honest man. He was raised in a home with great love, and in his later years. Mary Dale still had his gorgeous childhood paintings hanging on her walls. He was her everything and her caregiver for around 2 decades of the end of her life. That’s the way it is with some of us who are only children. We are the one left to carry on Rest gently, sweet man, your kind heart is at peace.
I was privileged to be Steve’s wife in the 1990’s and it was a sweet and often humorous journey we took. We spent most weekends hiking through places I’d never seen before or since, nature trails he knew of or Civil War battlefields. We had a shared reverence and love for Shiloh, and his knowledge base was enormous regarding the events and what happened when. I could see it, he brought it all to life in a gentle, sad tone of voice and sometimes, with tears for all the young men felled.
He was a sweet husband and a wonderful friend, full of kindness and easy laughter. He knew the Lord as his Savior, and I am comforted by knowing he’s in heaven now. I will always remember our time together, and while we had talked ( I live very far away from Alabama now) and I knew he was ill for some time, he had a positive outlook and a hopeful upbeat spirit. I tried to call him around 2 weeks ago, because I felt something was wrong, that maybe he could use some encouragement or I could get local tangible help for him. My message went to his voice mail. I know why, now. Godspeed, my friend, and may you still have an Alabama football cheering section in Heaven, too, and play with our little Bella. We both believe dogs are in heaven waiting for us. She was such a treasure and opened my life to more little white fluffy Bichons to come after her. I will never forget you for the gift of little Bella! She was ” our child”.
Written through tears I didn’t expect,
Amanda
Life won’t ever be the same without you, dear brother .. I’m truly honored to have been one of your very best friends, and so grateful for all the GREAT times and events that we shared ! Thanks from the bottom of my heart for all that you meant to me.

Roll Tide Forever . 🙏♥️
Love Always,

Bruce,
I know you and Steve were almost lifelong friends. He loved you so much and looked up to you. As you said ” Brothers forever”. You were brothers of the heart and mind, so deeply bonded. 🙂
I am so sorry he’s gone, sorry for all of us left here who grieve the loss of him, but especially you, because I knew you through him more than his other friends.
I always remember you with Steve, because you two just WERE. No matter what life threw at you, one helped the other through it, right? 🙂
So so glad you remained very close for the years I was not in touch. I always wondered if you stayed close, but didn’t feel it was my place to ask either of you.
The deep love for a friend is such a gift to be cherished, and there is grief and mourning when the relationship is severed by death or other final even here in earth. Save up your jokes, your stunning natural humor and intellect, because one day you’ll be sharing a new life with Steve and all those you love who have gone before you.
I’m so glad I met you through Steve. I loved spending time with both of you.
I’m thankful for so many memories and the love I shared with Steve.
Remembering you in my prayers as the grief heals somewhat.
Amanda
We all thought the world of Steve at J C Penney! He was such a wonderful person. I am so sorry to read of his unexpected passing. My thoughts and prayers will remain with Steve’s family and close friends.
I worked with Steve for many years at JCPenney’s. He was everybody’s friend, including mine! Last time I saw and spoke with him was at one of our JCP reunions. He would sometimes throw a little History in the conversation, as he loved that subject, so. I sure am going to miss seeing him at our future work reunions. He was always a lot of fun! I’m sure he will enjoy his new home – Heaven!
My condolences to Steve’s family. I’ve known Steve for almost 40 years. He was always kind, generous, witty, and extremely knowledgeable. We would talk Alabama football and I’ve used his season tickets a time or two. He would give me an extra Tide Pride tag. He was a very special friend. He’ll for cheering for the Tide in heaven. Rest on peace Steve. Love you, Kim
