Roger Lynn
DePoyster

March 1, 1953 - September 9, 2025

Roger Lynn DePoyster, age 72, of Florence, passed away September 9, 2025. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 20 – 11:00 am at Magnolia Church of Christ.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Shadrach and Arminta DePoyster, and his brother, John Stanley DePoyster.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry DePoyster; his sister, Sherry DePoyster Yates (Johnny); his children, Rusty DePoyster (Samantha) and Wendy Scott; his stepchildren, Shannon Moseley and Chad Moseley; grandchildren, Jordan DePoyster, Jacealyn Claunch, Emily Gore, Katie DePoyster, Clay Condrey, and Charlie Moseley; and great-grandchild, Grayson DePoyster. He also leaves behind his loyal companion, “Good Dog” Jessie.

Born on March 1, 1953, in Selmer, Tennessee, Roger moved to Florence as a young child. He attended Mars Hill Bible School and graduated from Central High School in 1972. Following high school, he joined the Army National Guard and later spent 28 years as a Senior Instrument Mechanic with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), retiring in 2019.

Roger was a devoted member of Magnolia Church of Christ in Florence, where he served faithfully as a greeter. He was actively involved in ministries such as Room at the Inn and was always eager to serve others and share his faith. His church family held a special place in his heart.

A proud Alabama Crimson Tide fan, Roger found joy in gathering with family and friends, especially while grilling hamburgers and making his famous homemade ice cream—something he enjoyed “only if I’m by myself or with somebody.”

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Preferred Hospice and Preferred Home Health for their compassionate care.

Roger was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger’s honor to the North Alabama Christian Children’s Home. PO Box 2652, Florence, AL. 35630

  6. Roger was such a kind neighbor to my parents for many years and helped my dad maintain his yard and do things around the house, always smiling and good natured even when dad was having challenging days. I’m sure mom and dad are happy to see him again in a better place.

  7. Sherry’s little brother. We probably drove him crazy all those Sunday afternoons after church. Roger did my first wedding pictures. Can’t remember if he even charged for them. I haven’t seen him in forever but it sounds like he turned out good. Peace to all his friends and family. Teresa Moran

  8. Roger, Sherry and I are second cousins. We grew up together, attended church and school, graduating together in 1972. Roger had a great smile that started in his eyes. He was a pleasure to be around and a really good dancer. The greatest compliment is to say our time together was always a joy. He was always a joy.
