Chastain

July 16, 1939 - January 23, 2025

Faye Horton Chastain, 85, of Muscle Shoals, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 26, from 12pm – 3pm at Highland Park Church of Christ, Muscle Shoals. The funeral service will follow immediately at the church at 3pm, with Ben Hayes and Michael Jackson officiating.

Faye was affectionately known as “Miss Faye” to children of all ages. She began teaching Sunday school at 17 years-old and taught for over 60 years. Many generations passed through the door of Miss Faye’s two year-old Bible class. She dedicated her life to opening the eyes of small children and sharing the story of God’s creation, His love for them, and their part in the story. Miss Faye spent many Saturday afternoons attending the birthday parties of her young friends.

Faye was an active member of Highland Park Church of Christ and took great joy in spending time with the Ladies Bible Class, helping with Lads to Leaders, and was a recipient of the Heritage Award, a service award recognizing years of service to her church family.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Chastain, and their daughter Ginger Leigh Chastain.

Survivors: Sons, James Todd Chastain (Joy) of Florence, and Mark Alan Chastain (Larissa) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Harrison (Madison), Carley (Josh), Claire, Hailey, and Ethan Chastain; sister, Barbara Strange of Acworth, GA; brother James A Horton (Rose) of Ripley, MS; nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for their love and excellent care of their mother. The genuineness shown by staff and residents will be forever impactful on the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mars Hill Bible School, Florence, AL.

  1. Todd and Mark and families, I am so sorry to learn of Miss Faye passing. Highland Park Church of Christ will never be the same without your mother and the influence she showed to the little kids she talked and everyone at Highland Park that front pool will be empty without your mother. Miss Faye was a pillar of the church.

  2. Dear Chastain family,
I’m sorry to read of your loved one’s passing, and may all find comfort in our Lord’s word during this time of sadness.
In John 11:23-26, “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”.
The above scripture is a wonderful promise from our Lord Jesus, and those who have passed on are now in the care of our Lord God, who has shown his love for us through his Beloved Son.
Rest in peace, dear sister; your reward is waiting.
God’s continued blessings be upon you all.

  3. How we have loved our Thanksgiving gatherings with Faye. God be with each and every member of her family with peace and joy in remembering wonderful happy times.

  4. My parents, Sterlin and Faye Smith loved your parents dearly. They ate together after church on Sunday nights and I was privileged to join them each Sunday night for a year or so. I bet mom, dad, Barbara Denton and Mr. Wayne sat down and visited and laughed getting caught us with each other. Can’t you just hear them now?

  5. Todd and Mark, I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. May your memories of her be a blessing in the days ahead.

  6. Todd and Mark so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  7. So sorry for your loss . Ms Faye was a very kind and caring person . She never judged anyone from what other people said . She would always get to know the person you really were . She will be missed dearly .

  8. Todd and Mark and family. What a sweet lady. Remembering y’all your dad and mom at Annapolis ave. She loved God and her joy whenever I saw her reminded me of how happy she was to be a Christian. Her and Barbara loved me and my brothers along with my aunts when we came to live my grandparents and dad. So thankful for Annapolis Ave family and then seeing her over the years. Your dad had the biggest laugh and they both will be remembered by me. Heaven has surely gained a woman who shared her journey with sooo many. I am sorry for your loss
