Larry Wilson
Kennedy

September 19, 1947 - August 21, 2025

Larry Wilson Kennedy, age 77, of Florence, affectionally known by his loved ones as “Papa” passed from this life to enter his forever home with his Lord on August 21, 2025.

Larry was a member of Atlas Church of Christ. He enjoyed the fellowship there working with the “Backpack Program”.

He was a retired boilermaker and used car dealer.

He was looking forward to football season to cheer on his Alabama Crimson Tide and Brooks Lions. He and Glenda had supported the Lions for 45 years “Roll Tide” and Roar Lions”

He was born on September 19, 1947, to his parents, Woodrow and Pearl Kennedy who are preceded him in death. Also, a brother, Bill Kennedy and Bob Kennedy; grandchildren, Molly Caroline Smith, Cooper Kennedy Hyche; parents-in-law, L.N and Hazel Smith.

Larry survives by a family who loved him and always knew they could depend on him. His loving wife of 57 years, Glenda Smith Kennedy; daughters, Nicole Glass (Tim) and Natalie Scruggs (Josh); grandchildren that he loved with his whole heart, Jordan Smith (Kristen), Jackson Hyche, Anna Kate Glass (Fiancée Chris Godwin), Brody Glass and Morgan Glass. He loved his special little Yorkie “Tide”.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, August 25th beginning at 5:00 pm at Atlas Church of Christ. It will be informal like Larry would have wanted. Honor him by wearing anything Alabama or Brooks!

We would like to thank all our friends and church family for all the prayers over the last 5 months. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at NAMC Hospital and the staff at Mitchell Hollingsworth rehab and UAB doctors and nurses for their love and care.

  1. I have known Larry for many years. Met him at Killen Elementary School and then at Roger’s High School where we both graduated in 1965. He was a very nice and kind person and had a wonderful family. My sympathy is extended to Glenda and his daughters: Nicole and Natalie and their families. Praying for all of you. Marjorie Mance Cole.

  2. Dear Kennedy family,
I’m sorry to read of your loved one’s passing, and may all find comfort in our Lord’s word during this time of sadness.
In John 11:23-26, “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
The above scripture is a wonderful promise from our Lord Jesus, and those who have passed on are now in the care of our Lord God, who has shown his love for us through his Beloved Son.
God’s continued blessings be upon you all; your loved one’s reward is waiting.

  3. I knew Larry when I worked for Chevron in Killen. I left in May and lost touch since then. I often wondered how he was. RIP Larry.
