Norman Donald Berry, a devoted servant of God, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family during the invitation song of Sunday morning worship service, concluding a life fully dedicated to faith.
Born on Rasch Road in Florence, Alabama, Norman grew up sharecropping and later helped his parents run a general store in Killen. A man of many skills, he was a woodworker, fisherman, beekeeper, former employee of Mr. Hibbett on Florence Blvd., and insurance agency owner. He worked as the Chief of Police Commissioner in Killen, was a machinist at TVA, was a National Guard veteran and gifted teacher.
His true calling was preaching. For more than 40 years, he delivered the Gospel with passion and power, serving congregations in Sulligent, Tuscaloosa, and Berry, Alabama, and Georgetown, Kentucky—where he proudly established the Scott County Church of Christ, which continues to meet today. He also conducted cherished mission work in Mexico.
A gifted and passionate teacher, Norman loved opening the Scriptures, making deep truths clear and inspiring faith in others through sermons, Bible studies, and mentoring.
He co-founded the Dixie Youth baseball organization in Killen with Jerry Mitchell, giving young people opportunities to grow.
A lifelong student of the Bible and avid reader, Norman lived his faith every day.
He was married 67 years to the most beautiful and patient woman, Mrs. Carole Berry, whose love sustained him.
Norman is survived by his sons: Jacob (Bridget), Jeffery, and Jonathan Berry (Marni); grandchildren: Joey, Kory (Carolyn), Hannah-Claire (Mike), Noah (Macey), and Mattie Berry (Thony); and great-grandchildren: Ally, Bryn, Cara, Troy, Victor, Wallace, Major and O.C. Berry.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Norman Berry; mother, Alma Gray Berry; brother, David Berry; and sisters, Earline Berry Phelps and Fana Berry Smith.
His legacy endures in the lives he touched, the church he planted, and the family he cherished.
A passionate, faithful man who loved God, family, and country, Norman Donald Berry will be remembered for his devotion, teaching gift, unwavering service, booming voice, and sneezes heard ’round the world. May his memory be a blessing and may those who loved him find comfort in the hope of eternal life through Christ.
The visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 1-2 pm at Killen Church of Christ with the service following at 2 pm. The burial will be at Stoney Point Church of Christ cemetery.

I’m sorry to read of your loved one’s passing, and may all find comfort in our Lord’s word during this time of sadness.
In John 11:23-26, “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
The above scripture is a wonderful promise from our Lord Jesus, and those who have passed on are now in the care of our Lord God, who has shown his love for us through his Beloved Son.
God’s continued blessings be upon you all; your loved one’s reward is waiting.
