Ronald Curtis
Haas

February 22, 1945 - April 24, 2026

Ronald Curtis Haas, 81, passed away at his home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, on April 24, 2026.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dewey and Elsie Haas.

Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne Haas; his two children, Kevin Haas (Maria) and Eric Haas (Melodie); grandchildren Eva, Anna, and Brian; and his brother, Jerry Haas (Liz) and nieces and nephews.

Ron was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 22, 1945. In 1950, Ron moved with his parents and older brother to Pisgah, Alabama, where Ron grew up. He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1963. He attended Snead State Community College and then graduated from Florence State University (now the University of North Alabama) in January 1969. In 1967, Ron was on active duty in the U.S. Army, and he served in the Reserves until 1972.

During college in Florence, Ron met the love of his life, Dianne McKee. They married in June 1968 and spent the next 58 years together, rearing two sons, Kevin and Eric.

Ron began his work career in 1969 at Listerhill Credit Union in the Shoals area. In 2008, Ron retired as president of Alabama Central Credit Union in Birmingham. But, never one to sit still, Ron worked for several more years for APCO Employees Credit Union (now Southern Energy Credit Union).

Ron was a man of deep faith, most recently worshiping at Shades Mountain Baptist Church. Outside of family and church, Ron’s primary devotion of time and energy was to Scouting. Ron (as are both of his sons) was an Eagle Scout. He received many other accolades as a student Scout and was an assistant scout master for most of his adult life.

Ron was a man of many talents and interests. He was a natural-born “horse trader.” He could sell anything, and he especially enjoyed buying and selling cars as a sideline career. He could fix anything and had an extensive collection of tools and parts in his home workshop. He enjoyed all sports, especially basketball, which he played in high school.

In lieu of flowers, Ron wished that any memorial contributions be directed to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (cholangiocarcinoma.org/ways-to-give/) or Gideons International (gideons.org/donate).

A grave-side service will be held at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, 2601 Florence Blvd., Florence, Alabama, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 2pm

A celebration-of-life memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 30 at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, 2017 Columbiana Road, Vestavia Hills, Alabama. A time will be announced later.
