Joyce Irene Patterson Carpenter, age 91, of Florence, Alabama, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2026.

Joyce was born on July 7, 1934, to Louis Edgar Patterson and Thelma Patterson. Throughout her life, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. Her greatest joy came from her family, and she will be remembered for the love, kindness, and unwavering devotion she shared with those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell Carpenter, two brothers, Walter Patterson and Jimmy Patterson, and grandson-in-law Mark Glover.

She is survived by her two sons, Eddy Carpenter (Pat), and Tony Carpenter (Robin Covelle); her grandchildren, Jessica Glover, Chelsea Carpenter, and Chase Carpenter. Her beloved great-grandchildren, Hope Glover Young (Tatum), Mark Edward Glover, Ella Grace Carpenter and sister Peggy Peeden. She also leaves behind her faithful companion, her beloved dog, Coco, who never left her side.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence, Alabama. Joyce was a faith member of Oakland Church of Christ for many years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to, Mars Hill Bible School, Florence, Alabama in Joyce’s memory.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Cicely McGee and Bree Richardson of Aveanna Hospice, as well as Bonnie Bowman, Rebecca Knox, and Robin Coville, for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided during Joyce’s final days. Their dedication brought comfort not only to Joyce but to her entire family.

Joyce’s legacy of love, strength, and faithfulness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered

  2. Joyce was so beautiful inside & out. She was a wonderful friend to my Mom & family for so many years. We loved her & pray she will rest in perpetual peace.

  3. Ella will miss visiting Joyce and her kindness toward her. Russ and I will never forget her. Chelsea and Chase are at peace with her passing but, will forever cherish her memory. The immediate family will be in our thoughts.
    My best memories are of her being an incredible crocheting hobbyist. She had a true gift for giving her handmade crocheted items. She’s been in my life since 1986 and Russ life since 1956. Lots of memories to cherish.
