Louis John Bernauer, 78, of Lexington passed away June 30, 2025. Visitation will be Saturday, July 5^th  from 10:00 -12:00 pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with the funeral mass starting at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Louis was born on September 3, 1946. He graduated from Coffee High School in 1964 and Florence State University in 1971. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Louis began working as an Ironworker in 1978.  He was a member of Ironworkers Local 477 of Sheffield.  He enjoyed working on his small farm raising cattle. He loved spending time with his girls and teaching them to cook.  His later years were happily spent being Peepaw to his five grandchildren. Louis enjoyed his hunting trips, Mondays at the sale barn, and Fridays eating lunch with his buddies.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis B. and Geraldine Bernauer; and sister, Catherine Whatley (Bill).

Louis is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Nell Bernauer; children, Stacy Eckl (Matt), Amy Moncus (Mack), and Mary Helen Bachofer (David); grandchildren, John David and Mamie Bachofer, Will Eckl, Kathleen and Bennett Moncus.  Additional survivors include brothers, Gerry Bernauer (Marlene) and Paul Bernauer (Anne); and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
